The internet will tell you that HP5 at 1600 is impossible, that it will be overly contrasty, unusable grain. Don't believe everything the internet tells you. The trick is to make sure you expose the skin tones (or whatever the tonal subject is) in such a way that you don't have to beat it up later; you have little room to raise a shadow to a midtone in the scanner. I develop in plain DDX, by the book except with only 1 or 2 inversions per minute.

When you get it right, the midtones are luscious like vanilla ice cream at midnight.

The roll in my camera now is being shot at 3200. I may try a more dilute developer with inversions every 1.5 mins. I need another stop.
